Edits stay in the open browser tab until you save them. Each save that changes something creates a new numbered data version (a revision).
When your work is saved#
While there is something to save, the study shows Unsaved changes and a Save changes button. Calculate results, importing and Save and leave also save. If a check fails, a message says what to fix.
Data versions#
A data version is a complete copy of the study: setup, rows with original and current values, corrections, exclusions, limits, and the sign-in email of the person who saved it. Creating the study makes version 1. Each calculation is made from one data version, and its report's audit trail names it. To change limits after calculating, see acceptance limits.
Leaving with unsaved changes#
If you leave a study with unsaved changes, Leave this study? offers Keep editing, Leave without saving or Save and leave. Closing or reloading the tab gives the browser's own warning.
When someone else saved first#
Two people, or two of your own tabs, can have the same study open. If someone saved while you were editing, your next save works like this:
- Their version loads with your unsaved edits on top. Nothing is saved or calculated yet.
- A notice says who saved, when, and which of their changes are kept. Changes to different rows or settings are combined.
- If you both changed the same value, the notice names it and shows your value there. Check those places.
- Choose Save changes again to save the combined study as a new data version.
If you have no unsaved edits and someone saved in between, calculating, signing off or importing stops with a message naming who saved. Reload the study and try again. To keep a copy of the page first, choose Save a copy of my edits. You can also choose it from the study's More menu whenever you want to keep a local copy of your entries.
Restoring your edits from a file#
Open the original study in a workspace you can edit, then:
- Choose More → Restore my edits and select the JSON file previously created by Save a copy of my edits. Unsaved changes in the open study are saved first.
- Choose Review edits. The dialog shows the row counts, changed settings, changes saved since the file was made, and any overlapping values. Where both changed the same value, the file's value is used. Saved entries, original values and import sources are retained.
- Choose Restore into editor, then review the combined setup and data, especially the named overlaps.
- Choose Save changes to save a new data version. Calculate again when you are ready to update the results.
Restoring puts the combined entries into the editor; it does not save or calculate them. The file must belong to this study, and you must still have access to its workspace. Earlier calculations and signed reports stay as they were.
Reopening your work#
Open the project, then the study from the Studies tab or the menu. The page address includes the stage and the chosen calculation or report, so reloading, Back and bookmarks return you to the same place.
What the application keeps#
See History and revisions for the records the study keeps. Display settings and the last name you entered at sign-off stay in your browser.
