The server calculates statistics from the saved study. Each calculation keeps the data, settings and acceptance limits it used.

Calculate results#

Choose Calculate results in the study header. It is the main button once the study has data, its required settings and a limit. It saves your edits, calculates and opens Results. When results are out of date, the button reads Recalculate results.

What stops a calculation#

If the calculation can't be done, a red message explains why. Your data stay saved.

ProblemWhat you seeWhat to do
A required setting is missingBefore calculating results, fill in: … and the study moves to Set up.Fill in the named settings.
A setting has an impossible valueThe message names the setting, for example a decision level that is not a number.Correct it on Set up.
Rows have a problemResolve the marked rows before analysis. A summary above the grid names the rows, and each is marked Fix errors with its problem in red.Correct the value, or exclude the row with a reason. See validation messages.
The data don't fit the designThe message names the level and what the design needs.Check the method chapter. If the study type is wrong, create a new study.
No usable resultsThe message asks for at least one included result.Enter or include results.
Someone else saved firstTheir version loads with your unsaved edits on top, or a message names who saved.See when someone else saved first.

Each case is explained in analysis problems. Other problems let the calculation run. The result carries a study note or marks a statistic as not estimated, and any limit that depends on it is Undecided. See study notes and unavailable results.

When results are out of date#

Any saved change to data, settings or limits puts the last result out of date. You see a yellow banner, out of date on the Results tab and Results out of date in the project's study list. The Report stage holds back the report until you recalculate. A signed report stays on screen, marked as older than the data.

Calculation history#

Recalculating adds a new calculation beside the earlier ones. Calculating again with no change returns the same calculation.

To view an earlier one, choose it in the Calculation list on the Results stage, for example Calculated Sep 24, 2026, 20:42. In most study types the list sits under Additional statistics and calculation history or Detailed statistics. A warning names the calculation you are viewing, with Show latest calculation. The Report stage opens on the latest calculation. See history and revisions.

Calculation methods#

Methods and sources on the Results stage describes the methods and links to their published sources. The report's C Audit trail (with Include technical details) gives the Method ID and software versions. If a software update changes a calculation method, recalculating creates a new calculation with the new Method ID. Earlier calculations and signed reports keep their values.
