Correct a wrong value, and the original stays on record. No reason is needed. Exclude a value that must not be used, with a reason, and the row stays in the study.
The row dialog#
Each row's Correct / exclude button reads Edit, Corrected, Excluded or Fix errors. Fix errors marks a problem that stops the calculation. Select the button to open Correct or exclude row n. For a flagged row, the problem is stated beside the affected field and the cursor starts there. Error links above the grid take you directly to the affected cell. The dialog shows the Original entry (and the row's specimen ID and where it came from) and editable result and design fields, including level and replicate. The file name and source row identify an imported entry. Paired studies such as method comparison have two value fields.
The original is the value in the imported file, or the first value saved for a typed row.
Correcting a value#
- Open the row dialog.
- Enter the right value in the affected result or design field. The number fields show the study’s decimal convention.
- Select Save row changes (or press Enter in a text field), then save the study.
You can also change a value in the grid itself. Either way the original value stays on record beside the corrected one.
Excluding a result#
- Open the row dialog.
- Tick Exclude this row from the calculation.
- Enter an Exclusion reason, for example
Clot flagged by analyzer. Without one, the dialog says Enter an exclusion reason. - Select Save row changes, then save the study.
An imported file can also set exclusions in Excluded and Exclusion reason columns. See also rows without a value.
To include a row again, untick the box and recalculate.
Why rows cannot be deleted#
Saved rows stay in the study so a reviewer can see every result entered and what changed. Exclude a row with a reason instead. An empty typed row can be removed from the notice above the grid. To start over, import again with Replace the current rows. See importing a file.
How corrections and exclusions show in results#
Results gives the counts, for example 19 analyzed · 2 excluded. In repeatability, multi-day precision, bias and descriptive studies, a folded list under the Measurements plot names the excluded results and their reasons. Select one to open its row in Data. Show excluded values on chart adds excluded results to the plot. They still don't count in any statistic.
The report's data listing has every row. A row whose value changed shows its original and current values, Incl. reads Yes or No, and Note gives the reason for an exclusion, for example Excluded: Clot flagged by analyzer.
Example#
In the first-study data, correcting row 1 from 99.2 to 99.3 and excluding row 5 (100.8) gave 19 analyzed · 2 excluded: mean 100.14 mg/dL, SD 0.945 mg/dL and CV 0.94 % from 19 results. The earlier calculation (20 results, mean 100.17 mg/dL) and its report stayed as they were.
