Open Report, the study's fourth stage, to read, print and download the report of the latest calculation. Earlier reports and calculations are under History.

The Report stage#

The summary at the top shows the heading Report (after sign-off, the report's number, such as Report 2, and who signed it off and when), when the results were calculated, and the Result, for example Criteria not met.

Beside it are the actions:

  • Download PDF (Download signed PDF for a signed report), the main action, with Print beside it.
  • Sign off, to record who reviewed the report. When it can't be used yet, a line under the button says why: Calculate results first., Save and recalculate first., Recalculate first. or Only the latest calculation can be signed.

If the data or acceptance limits changed after the latest calculation, the report appears again after you choose Recalculate results. A signed report stays on screen with The data changed after this report was signed. Recalculate to update the report.

Below the summary:

  • Include technical details adds diagnostics, detailed methods and the audit trail. See Report files.
  • Open full page opens the report on its own in a new tab.
  • Other downloads holds the black and white copy, the copy with technical details, a copy on your chosen paper size, the HTML file of a signed report, the results summary, the study data, the calculation file and, for some study types, the plots. See Exports.
  • History lists the study's signed reports and calculations. See History and revisions.

The report fills the rest of the page, as it prints.

What the report contains#

Page 1 is one sheet you can sign, laid out top to bottom:

  1. Header: laboratory name.
  2. Title: analyte, unit and study type, with the outcome box on the right, such as Criteria met or Undecided. Below it: the instrument, the comparative method or lots where the study has them, and the study date.
  3. Evidence: the main figure and the Key results table. Method comparisons also show the regression line (slope, intercept, mean bias and their confidence intervals, and r).
  4. Acceptance criteria: every limit that applies, with its estimate and outcome. When page 1 has no room for every row, one line gives the count met and the full table opens Results.
  5. Study details: matrix, method, lots, design and the number of included and excluded results.
  6. Signature and date lines at the foot of the page, just above the footer. They stay on page 1.

Page 1 has no footnotes or warning text. A marker such as *1 on the outcome, a table or a value points to the same number under Notes to page 1, the first part of 2 Study notes. For example, a comparison with fewer specimens than recommended shows Criteria met *1.

The other sections follow:

The outcome box#

SituationOutcome box
All limits that apply are met✓ Criteria met
A limit not met✗ Criteria not met
A limit undecided! Undecided
Limits that apply were not evaluated○ Not evaluated
No acceptance limits○ Descriptive – no criteria
Limits set, but none applies○ No applicable criteria

The outcome box uses the same words as the study status. The Results and Study notes sections give each outcome and its reason.

Black and white or color#

Reports use restrained color for decisions: red for a limit not met and green for a limit met. For black and white, choose Other downloads › Black & white copy (PDF).

A report always shows in the light Day colors. Your text size, density and legible font settings change how it looks on screen; printouts and PDFs use the standard layout. Paper size for PDFs (As stored, Letter or A4) sets the paper: a report prints on the chosen size, and for a signed report Other downloads offers a copy on it.

Laboratory name and director line#

Set the laboratory name on the project's Overview tab: open Project details and choose Edit project. It prints on page 1 and in every page footer. If it is blank, the footer uses the project name.

Include a director signature line (optional) is off for new projects. Tick it in Project details → Edit project to add blank Director approval and Date lines to report page 1 for a paper signature. Clear it to omit those lines.

A signed report keeps the settings it had at sign-off. Every other report uses the current settings.

Signing off#

Signing off is optional. A report prints with blank Signed off by and Date lines to sign by hand; Sign off fills them in and locks that version of the report.

  1. Calculate the statistics.
  2. Review the report, especially the outcome box and any \* markers, the acceptance criteria and 2 Study notes.
  3. Choose Sign off. The dialog gives the date of the calculation and the study status, says that the name and the sign-off date print on page 1 and that the report and its PDF are then kept as they are, and shows your sign-in email as Prepared by.
  4. Enter Signed off by (optional): whoever reviewed the report, for example you, a supervisor or the medical director. Your browser remembers the last name you entered.
  5. Choose Sign off in the dialog. The date and time are added automatically, in your own time zone (for example 2026-10-01 20:15 EDT), and the stage then reads Signed off by NAME on DATE.

On the signed report, Prepared by is the sign-in email of the person who signed it off, and Signed off by shows the name as typed. If the PDF can't be made at sign-off, the report is still signed off; see report problems.
